THE BEST FIFA WOMEN'S COACH

Reynald Pedros

Starting a new job in an unfamiliar field may be daunting to most, but there are lessons to be learned from Reynald Pedros’ seemingly seamless adaptation to the women’s game. His first job in women’s football came at one of this era’s most successful club sides: Olympique Lyonnais, where the former France international was thrust into the unenviable position of emulating a treble-winning coach in Gerard Precheur.

Pedros may have fallen short in retaining all three trophies that Precheur landed in 2016/17, but the enigmatic Frenchman put his own stamp on an already tremendous team. He led OL to an unbeaten Division 1 Feminine title, before sweeping all aside in Europe to reclaim the UEFA Women’s Champions League crown. And it is all done with joy as a central mantra.

“Having fun is a core concept here. The aim is to enjoy ourselves in working together, suffering together and winning together.”
