Ariadina earns Brazil late draw with England

A stoppage time strike from substitute Ariadina Borges earned Brazil a 1-1 draw with England in Group B at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup France 2018 on Wednesday afternoon.

It was the Young Lionesses that made a bright start at the Stade du Clos Gastel in Dinan-Lehon, taking the lead through a Georgia Stanway penalty on 11 minutes after Tainara was adjudged to have fouled Chloe Peplow in the Brazil box following a corner.

The South American champions responded well to falling behind, pressing England for the remainder of the half, but Sandy MacIver was on hand to intervene when needed in the Young Lionesses' goal.

For the most part, Mo Marley’s side proved difficult for Brazil to break down, despite Brazil tallying up 21 attempts on goal to England’s six.

That pressure finally told in second-half stoppage time. Brazil found their deserved leveller, as Borges’s low shot beat a diving MacIver, earning them a valuable point. Both sides will aim to clinch a spot in the quarter-finals during their final group matches on Sunday 12 August.
