Sarai Bareman thanks media for women’s football coverage during FWA awards

FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer Sarai Bareman has thanked the media for their coverage of women’s football during the Football Writers´ Association (FWA) annual awards in London. Bareman presented the women’s Footballer of the Year award to Sam Kerr of Australia and Chelsea FC, who won it for the second year in a row. With less than two months to the start of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand 2023, Sarai Bareman said she was in awe at presenting the trophy to Sam Kerr.

“I am standing on the same stage as someone I am completely in awe of, it’s a huge honour…. It’s quite special that a Kiwi and an Australian are on the stage here in the year of the FIFA Women’s World Cup which will be hosted in New Zealand and Australia,” she said. She added: Thank you all for all the coverage you give us in women’s football – we need it, we love it and I really appreciate what you’re doing.” The FWA, founded in 1947, represents the interests of more than 800 football journalists in England.
