Desert Foxes stand tall against Taeguk Warriors

As kick-off at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ edges closer every day, we at FIFA.com thought we would whet your appetite for the action.

With some outstanding games in store across June and July, we are going to focus in on highlights from some of the most memorable encounters from four years ago.

We were treated to excitement, drama, and an avalanche of goals at Brazil 2014, so what better way to get your imagination flowing for what may be around the corner this time!

Korea Republic 2-4 Algeria 22 June, Estadio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre

Having only picked up a single point in South Africa four years earlier, expectations were somewhat tepid about Algeria's chances of qualifying from the group stage for the first time, despite having a side containing some impressive young talents.

A resilient display in their 2-1 defeat to Belgium saw people rethinking those predictions, as they faced a Korea Republic side coming off the back of a 1-1 draw with Russia. Les Fennecs went and pushed that bar even higher, with an electric display in Porto Alegre boasting power, precision and attacking intent.

While the Taeguk Warriors kept them on their toes, they would go on to escape the group and gave eventual champions Germany an almighty scare, taking them to extra-time in the Round of 16.
