FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence, Lyon, France

The Santy Orthopaedic Centre and Albert Trillat Centre in Lyon together form an accredited FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence under the name of the Lyons Medical Centre.

The Lyons Medical Centre was very proud to be the first French centre to obtain this designation and will continue its work in sport in general and football in particular to improve care for football players of all levels through improved knowledge in diagnosis and management.

Founded in January 2006 by Dr Gilles Walch and Dr Pierre Chambat, the Santy Orthopaedic Centre is dedicated to treating sports injuries and providing orthopaedic surgery. It has been treating many elite athletes for many years now, including professional footballers from France and other European countries.

All of our doctors moved their respective practices and outpatient rooms to this custom-built building, which has transformed the clinic into an internationally recognised centre of excellence for the treatment of orthopaedic, spinal, sports medicine, rheumatology and musculoskeletal injuries. Our doctors are experts in their fields, leaders in clinical research, and innovators in developing advanced treatment methods. We value a multidisciplinary approach, which allows our patients to benefit from the quality and efficiency of the integrated care we provide. We work closely with Alexandre Dellal (football fitness coach at OGC Nice), a doctor of science in football and holder of a UEFA Pro Licence “A”) regarding football-related cases.

The Albert Trillat Centre takes care of all amateur and professional athletes and manages injuries from sporting activities through research on risk factors. The centre’s programme combines academic orthopaedic surgery led by Professor Philippe Neyret, Head of the Orthopaedic Department, and Professor Elvire Servien, who specialises in sports injury-related surgery.

The centre’s medical team has full-time staff in biomechanics, a university research lab and an applied biomechanics and sports biology lab.

Our university training centre combines a medical clinic, a medical school and a research centre dedicated to the treatment and prevention of injury and disease in sport as well as arthritis. In both national and international education, we have high-level full-time positions at sporting orthopaedic institutions. We are national leaders in offering university degrees in sports medicine such as in musculoskeletal injuries, sports physiotherapy, knee surgery and arthroscopy.

The centre is fully committed to football and sports medicine, and our activities provide research in the field of football injuries and other injury prevention.

The centre was selected by UEFA to provide players with treatment during matches in Lyons at EURO 2016.
