UAE fourth in their Qatar 2022 qualifying group
Two-time FIFA World Cup™ coach Bert van Marwijk has parted company with United Arab Emirates after just nine months in the role.
Having reached the AFC Asian Cup semi-finals in January under Alberto Zaccheroni, United Arab Emirates have made a modest start to their Qatar 2022 qualifying campaign. They are currently fourth in Group G of the Asian qualifiers on six points from four matches after defeats against Thailand and Vietnam. UAE suffered a group-stage exit at the Gulf Cup on Monday following losses against Iraq and Qatar.
The west Asians will resume their Qatar 2022 campaign against Malaysia on 26 March, before further outings against Indonesia (31 March), Thailand (4 June) and Vietnam (9 June).
Van Marwijk led Netherlands to the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final and helped Saudi Arabia qualify for the 2018 World Cup, before taking Australia’s reins for Russia 2018.
