Collaboration and progress the themes of FIFA President meetings in Monaco

  • Gianni Infantino met H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco

  • FIFA President also attended the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix

  • Productive exchanges followed on raceday with FIA and Formula One Group chiefs

Gianni Infantino has met H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) President Mohammed ben Sulayem and Formula One Group CEO Stefano Domenicali on the sidelines of the F1 Monaco Grand Prix.

Discussion topics included continued collaboration through mutual learning points for the sports as Mr Infantino was given a tour of the paddock on race day including the Race Control room after discussing the accessibility of football for young people the previous evening.

“It was an honour to meet H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco. A great sportsman himself, he has always been, and he continues to be a great football fan and we discussed how we can continue working together to introduce more young girls and boys to our beautiful game and make football truly global,” the FIFA President said.

Albert II took part in five successive Winter Olympics from 1988 to 2002, representing Monaco in bobsleighing.

While attending the Monaco Grand Prix at the Circuit de Monaco, the FIFA President – accompanied by former FIFA World Cup winner and Senior Football Advisor at FIFA Youri Djorkaeff, FIFA Deputy Secretary General - Football Mattias Grafström and FIFA Chief Business Officer Romy Gai - continued the knowledge exchange and co-operation with both the FIA and Formula One Group.

Mr Infantino added: "[It was] a great experience at the Monaco Grand Prix to see how the FIA and Formula One put together such a brilliant display. It was a real factfinding mission as discussions with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and Formula One Group CEO Stefano Domenicali revealed that our two sports share a lot of similarities. This is something we will explore further together.

“It was great to once more meet H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and to catch up with some great stars including Jean Alesi, Neymar, Marco Verratti and Gianluigi Donnarumma, among others.”
