With just two months until the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Costa Rica 2022 the "VAMOS JUNTAS TOUR" will bring together hundreds of young girls from the seven provinces of Costa Rica between June 11 - July 23 with the aim of boosting female football participation throughout the country. The VAMOS JUNTAS TOUR will reach Limón, Cartago, Nicoya, Puntarenas, Pérez Zeledón, San Carlos and Heredia. The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Local Organising Committee, in conjunction with the FIFA Women's Development Programme, have organised these festivals where girls from 8 to 13 years of age and from different football schools will participate in football matches, recreational games and participate in talks related to female empowerment, sustainability and other values of the tournament.
Local Organising Committee, Executive Director, Víctor Umaña, is looking forward to the VAMOS JUNTAS TOUR kicking off this weekend. “We will bring enthusiasm and a positive and hopeful message to various communities in the country through the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup and women's football. We want our voice to be heard: 'VAMOS JUNTAS', we expect to reach more than 800 girls across these festivals," said Umaña. “Together with the Local Organising Committee, we have united the objectives of the FIFA Women's Development Programme with those of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Costa Rica 2022™️. Our mission is to encourage more girls and young people to play football in such a way that it becomes a vehicle for comprehensive and physical training,” also commented Elieth Artavia, coordinator for Fedefútbol for the Women's Football Campaign.
As one of the eight programmes available under the FIFA Women’s Development Programme banner, the Women’s Football Campaign is designed to support associations to deliver grassroots and small-sided football events to boost the participation of young girls, adding to the legacy of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup™ in Costa Rica.
