The mother of the volunteers

There are 305 people currently volunteering at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Costa Rica 2022™. The group, who went through a careful selection process, were chosen from the more than 9,300 applicants who offered to contribute to the organisation of the tournament in San Jose.

Among their number is Isabel Mora, a 53-year-old woman who also participated as a volunteer at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Costa Rica 2014. On that occasion, she helped out on her own, but this time her three children are also among the group of volunteers who have joined forces to help stage an impeccable World Cup.

For Isabel, this year’s Mother's Day, which is celebrated on 15 August in Costa Rica, will be special, as she will share an unforgettable day together with her children and the rest of the group at the Volunteer Centre at the Estadio Nacional in San Jose. Discover the story of Isabel, known at the Centre as “la madre de los voluntarios” (the mother of the volunteers).

“Volunteers are a crucial player in a competition like this FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Not only do they bring initiative, joy and enthusiasm, but they put their own time, passion and knowledge for the event. On behalf of FIFA, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all volunteers at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022 ," FIFA Head of Youth Tournaments Roberto Grassi said. “Volunteers are truly the heart, soul and first smile at every FIFA tournament and without you the atmosphere surrounding at FIFA youth tournaments would be very different.”
