FIFA President sees Jamaica defeat Guatemala 3-2 at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2031™ set to be co-hosted by Jamaica
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has attended an exciting Concacaf Nations League match between Jamaica and Guatemala at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica as part of his two-day visit to four Caribbean nations. The hosts, who narrowly missed out on qualification to the recent FIFA World Cup 2026™, ran out 3-2 winners with substitute Renaldo Cephas’ scoring the decisive goal in second half stoppage time.
During his time in Kingston, Mr Infantino took the opportunity to meet the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport for Jamaica, the Honourable Olivia “Babsy” Grange; Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) President Michael Ricketts; Trinidad & Tobago Football Association (TTFA) President Kieron Edwards, and Haitian Football Federation (FHF) Normalisation Committee Chairwoman Monique André.
“I had an enjoyable time attending the Concacaf Nations League game between Jamaica and Guatemala in Kingston. Congratulations to Jamaica on the win, and well done to Guatemala on a fantastic performance,” Mr Infantino said. “A big thanks to all the fans who showed the passion this region has for football, to Concacaf for organising a wonderful competition, and to the Jamaica Football Federation for the warm welcome.”
Jamaica is in line to co-host the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2031™ in partnership with Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States, with confirmation of their bid formally decided at the upcoming tenth Extraordinary FIFA Congress on Monday, 23 November 2026. The tournament will provide an added impetus to women’s football in both the region and beyond as it will be the first FIFA Women’s World Cup™ to feature 48 participating teams. The tournament will be the first-ever FIFA final tournament staged in Jamaica.
In terms of ongoing projects, the FIFA Forward programme has supported various initiatives on the island, including a new full-size artificial pitch at the JFF’s headquarters, the Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence.
FIFA Football for Schools was launched in the Caribbean nation in September 2025, while the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS) has also been introduced, supporting the launch of a two-tier academy league and further talent identification opportunities for U-15 boys and U-17 girls.
