FIFA President meets FFSL's Jaswar Umar in Doha

FIFA President Gianni Infantino met the President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL), Jaswar Umar, in Doha to discuss football development in the Indian Ocean nation. The FIFA President congratulated Jaswar Umar on his election to the Executive Committees of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) in July. Jaswar Umar was elected as its FFSL president last year, having previously been its General Secretary.

He oversaw the introduction of the Football Sri Lanka Super League, which was supported by the FIFA Foundation, featured 10 teams and was played on a semi-professional basis. A key feature of the new league was that it implemented club licensing rules based on Asian Football Confederation (AFC) guidelines. The rules ensure that basic standards are met and consider aspects such as a club's youth development, medical care, grassroots programmes, child protection and its anti-racism policies.
