Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen's home stadium was originally built in 1956, but after the club was promoted to the Bundesliga, ever-increasing numbers flocked to see them in action. As a result, the stadium was gradually expanded during the 1980's and 90's, before being completely renovated in 2009 at a cost of €73 million. All the existing stands were expanded with capacity raised from 22,500 to 29,870. The number of workstations for members of the media was also increased significantly.

The stadium has hosted a number of friendly internationals and qualifying matches for the various German national teams as well as UEFA Cup und UEFA Champions League ties. Leverkusen is one of three FIFA Women's World Cup venues, along with Frankfurt and Wolfsburg, which has both a men's and a women's team currently plying their trade in the Bundesliga.
