The FIFA Women's World Cup Stadium in Frankfurt will be the venue for the final of the tournament on 17 July 2011. With its capacity of 48,817, the stadium occupies the same patch of land where the legendary Waldstadion had previously stood. Following several redevelopments, the arena was completely rebuilt for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™.
The stadium's regular tenants are Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, though several other clubs from the region also play their home games here. 1. FFC Frankfurt won the final of the UEFA Women's Cup against Umea IK here in May 2008, in front of a record crowd for a women's club match of 27,500. The Frankfurt Arena hosted five matches during Germany 2006, providing an unforgettable experience for fans from both home and abroad with its incredible atmosphere.
Five matches of the 1974 edition of the world showpiece were also played in Frankfurt, including the opening match between Brazil and Yugoslavia and the second-round game between West Germany and Poland. The stadium was also the venue for two UEFA EURO 1988 matches and a number of FIFA Confederations Cup matches in 2005, while the women's international between Germany and Brazil on 22 April 2009 drew a European record crowd of 45,000 fans.
