Record crowd whets appetite for FIFA Women’s World Cup kick-off

The stage is set for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ after co-hosts Australia drew a record home attendance in their final match before the tournament’s opening matchday next Thursday. Australia won 1-0 over 2019 hosts France in a marquee match-up at Melbourne’s Docklands Stadium in front of a record 50,629 attendance. The previous record crowd for an Australian home women's international was set in 2021 when 36,109 witnessed the Matildas face USA at Stadium Australia, venue for next month’s Final on 20 August.

The Matildas will now head to their Brisbane-based dedicated Team Base Camp - a first for a Women’s World Cup - while France’s Team Base Camp will be in Sydney. New Zealand will kick-off the tournament on Thursday at Eden Park against Norway, while Australia will face Republic of Ireland at Stadium Australia later in the evening. Tickets for FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 matches are on sale now via fifa.com/tickets, while fans that want to take their tournament experience ‘above and beyond’ can access ticket-inclusive hospitality packages at fifa.com/hospitality.
