The games Group A: Netherlands - Ghana | France - New Zealand Group B: Brazil - England | Korea DPR - Mexico
What you need to know 1. Old acquaintances: After an opening-day meeting with Ghana, who they also faced at Papua New Guinea 2016, France now go up against another side they met at the last edition in New Zealand. That 2016 showdown holds happy memories for Les Bleuettes, who triumphed 2-0 in Port Moresby to secure a quarter-final spot.
2. El Tri vs defending champions: For the second time this summer, a Mexico team will be up against the defending champions in the group stage of a World Cup. At Russia 2018, the senior men secured a memorable 1-0 win over Germany – a feat that should inspire their young female counterparts, as they prepare for current title holders Korea DPR.
3. 10 years on: A decade after they last graced the quarter-finals of this competition at Chile 2008, England will go close to matching that feat, with a victory over Brazil on Wednesday.
4. Heavyweight support: The Ghana squad have the support of a very special fan here at France 2018. Travelling in Brittany, Michael Essien met up with his young compatriots to wish them the best of luck in the competition.
