Procedures for FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2022™ draw now available

The procedures for the Draw for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022™ are now available.

With the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ fast approaching, some of the world’s best young players and future superstars of the women’s game will take to the field at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup™ in Costa Rica from 10 to 28 August 2022.

Taking place at 13:00 (local time) on Thursday, 5 May at the Teatro Nacional in San José, the Draw for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022 is one of the final milestones in the lead-up to the tournament and will be where fans and the 16 participating teams learn the route that lies ahead in the quest to lift the coveted trophy in August.

Hosted by athlete and TV presenter Johanna Solano, the draw will feature two stars of Costa Rican football, Shirley Cruz and Paulo César Wanchope, as draw assistants, while Jaime Yarza, FIFA’s Director of Tournaments, will conduct the draw.

The Draw for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2022 will also be the first FIFA draw to be streamed live on FIFA+ following the platform’s recent launch.

Draw procedures summary As part of the draw procedures, the 16 participating teams have been allocated to four pots of four teams each, based on a ranking created according to past sporting performance.

With qualification around the world now complete, the line-up for the tournament is as follows: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Ghana, Japan, Korea Republic, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Spain, the USA and hosts Costa Rica.

The draw will start with four pots labelled 1 to 4 representing the teams. The four pots representing the groups will be labelled A to D. In each pot, there will be four balls containing the position numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 of each respective group, with each pot being completely emptied before moving on to the next pot.
