Mexico, USA qualify for Uruguay 2018

  • Mexico and USA will contest the CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship final

  • Mexico sealed FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup place with 2-1 win over Canada

  • Comeback 3-2 victory over Haiti secured USA's position

Mexico and USA are heading to the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Uruguay 2018 after winning their respective semi-finals at the CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship.

The Mexicans sealed their place with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Canada, who will now battle it out with Haiti for the region's final spot in Uruguay in Tuesday's third-place play-off.

Mexico took the lead through an early Anette Vazquez header, and while the Canadians battled back to level through Teni Akindoju, Nicole Perez settled matters with a coolly converted penalty.

The second semi-final was every bit as tight, with hosts USA forced to come from behind to beat Haiti 3-2. The underdogs had taken a 14th-minute  lead through Melanie Dumonay but Sunshine Fontes grabbed a double to inspire the US recovery, with Mia Fishel also on the scoresheet.

The Americans, who were finalists at the U-17 Women's World Cup's inaugural edition in 2008, will now battle it out with old rivals Mexico for the continental title in Tuesday's final at Florida's IMG Academy.
