Estadio Profesor Alberto Suppici

The Estadio Profesor Alberto Suppici is situated in the city of Colonia del Sacramento, on the banks of the River Plate. Owned by the local authority, it was opened in 1977.

The largest sporting venue in the department of Colonia, it is the home ground of the Colonia Football Association’s representative team and Club Plaza Colonia, the only professional team in the department. It also hosts local and regional league matches.

The stadium has staged matches in continental tournaments such as the U-20 South American Championships in 2003 and 2015, the Women’s Copa Libertadores in 2016 and the Copa Sudamericana in the same year.

The venue is named after Professor Alberto Suppici, who was born in Colonia in 1898 and became the first coach to win the FIFA World Cup™ when he guided Uruguay to the Trophy at the inaugural world finals in 1930.
