Uruguayan Fabian Coito has been officially announced as the new head coach of the Honduras national team. The former Uruguay U-20 head coach has been entrusted with leading Los Catrachos during the next FIFA World Cup™ qualification cycle for Qatar 2022.
Coito has been working with Uruguay's various youth squads for over ten years, having joined the Uruguayan Football Federation (AUF) in 2007. He worked as coach of the U-15, U-17 and U-20 sides during his time with La Celeste.
During his time with the U-20s he led them to the South American title in their age group in 2017, something the country had not achieved for 30 years. At the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017, Uruguay finished in fourth place.
The Honduras job will be Coito's first full-time position as the head coach of a senior national team, aside from leading Uruguay's senior national team in a friendly in Oscar Tabarez's brief absence.
