Kasper Schmeichel (5.0m) Denmark The Danes conceded just eight goals in ten qualifiers – six less than the team that finished above them in their group, Poland. Schmeichel has kept clean sheets in his last three appearances, all against Russia 2018 participants, and will have centre-backs Andreas Christensen and Simon Kjaer, of Chelsea and Sevilla respectively, for protection. The Leicester City goalkeeper demonstrated his penalty-saving prowess by repelling ones in both legs of their Round-of-16 upset of Sevilla in the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League. Denmark’s first two games, against Peru and Australia, are ones the son of Peter Schmeichel – the nation’s UEFA EURO 1992 hero – will have earmarked for clean sheets. Willy Caballero (5.0m) Argentina The cancellation of two of Argentina’s last three pre-World Cup friendlies, which denied Franco Armani the chance to make his international debut and stake a claim to start the opener against Iceland, appears to have left Caballero in pole position. With Croatia and Nigeria also for company in Group D, the two-time World Cup winners will expect clean sheets. Francis Uzoho (4.0m) Nigeria It appears a steal of a price for a keeper who seems set to start in Russia. The 19-year-old came on as a half-time substitute for his international debut in November, with Nigeria trailing Argentina 2-1, and produced an infallible performance as they rallied to win. The 6ft 5ins Deportivo La Coruna man, the youngest foreign goalkeeper in La Liga history, has started the Super Eagles’ last five matches, keeping a clean sheet against a Robert Lewandowski-spearheaded Poland. Nigeria face Croatia and Iceland – both of whom struggled for goals in qualifying – before a reunion with Argentina.
