Cheryshev, Golovin thrive as Russians revel
Nine Russians scored heavily on Day 1 of Round 1
A midfielder belied his 4.5 million cost with eight points
You can change your captain ahead of the Day 2 deadline
Denis Cheryshev (6.5 million) and Aleksandr Golovin (5.5m) pocketed an unparalleled 13 points apiece in the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup™ Fantasy as nine Russians seized six-plus points on a Day 1 beyond their wildest dreams.
Golovin contributed a goal and two assists to the 5-0 smashing of Saudi Arabia, with his performance minimally grazed by a booking, while Cheryshev, who came on in the 24th minute for hamstring victim Alan Dazgoev, bagged a brace.
Another substitute, Artem Dzyuba (8.0m), was sent on in the 70th minute with the hosts 2-0 up. The 6ft 5ins striker responded with a goal, an assist and eight Fantasy points – the same total Iury Gazinsky registered in a return that mocked his cost (4.5m).
Igor Akinfeev (5.0m), Mario Fernandes (5.0m), Sergey Ignashevich (4.5m), Ilya Kutepov (4.5m) and Roman Zobnin (5.0m) all scored six points thanks to a clean sheet.
Change your captain Round 1 matches will take place over six days, and you can change your captain ahead of each one. Only the player that finishes Round 1 in your armband will score double points.
So, if you have one of the nine high-scoring Russians as your captain, you may elect not to make a change. But if you didn’t, you probably want to select a new skipper ahead of Friday’s deadline (14:00 CET).
Teams boasting Mo Salah, Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez, Bernardo Silva, Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco and David Silva are in action on Day 2. And if you choose one of them, and he doesn’t do well, you can always change your captain again ahead of the Day 3 deadline (12:00 CET on Saturday).
Make substitutions If a player in your starting XI didn’t perform well, you can substitute him out for a player on your bench who hasn’t yet played.
However, if you want to bring Spain goalkeeper David de Gea in for his Saudi counterpart Abdullah Almuaiouf, who scored zero points, you have up until the kick-off of the first game on the day (14:00 CET on Friday).
