27 days to go: Zinha's wonder-goal

Mexico have scored 33 goals at the FIFA Confederation Cups overall, but No.27 stands out in particular. At the 2005 edition of the Tournament of Champions in Germany, attacking midfielder Antonio Naelson, better known as Zinha, unleashed a stunning long-ranged shot in the 39th minute of El Tri’s group-stage match against Japan that rifled into Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi’s top corner.

As part of the contest “13 Goals in 2013” held on FIFA.combetween 13 May and 13 June of that year, this strike was voted as the best in Confederations Cup history. Zinha’s masterstroke won 43 per cent of the votes, putting it ahead of goals by two legendary Brazilians: Kaka’s winner against Argentina in 2005 and Ronaldinho’s effort against Saudi Arabia in 1999.
