European champions begin with comfortable win
Jean-Kevin Augustin and Amine Harit put them in control
Martin Terrier sealed victory against outclassed Honduras side
France confirmed their status as one of the tournament heavyweights as they cruised to a 3-0 win over Honduras to kick off their FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 campaign.
Ludovic Batelli’s side could have been in front inside five minutes had Honduras keeper Javier Delgado not been alert to Jerome Onguene’s header, but it only delayed the European champions by ten minutes, with Jean-Kevin Augstin slamming home a free-kick from 20 yards.
Darixon Vuelto set Bleus hearts aflutter as he fired in a swerving shot from the left of the French area. However, Honduras’s woes doubled just before the break. The ball fell at the feet of Amine Harit, who struck goalwards, although a huge deflection helped it find the net.
While Augustin should have made it three having skipped around the Honduras goalkeeper, Douglas Martinez came close to edging the underdogs back into contention, breaking loose of his defensive chaperone to power a header directly at Alban Lafont.
France's Martin Terrier made no such mistake, though, nodding in to seal the game with ten minutes to go.
