Dates and venue confirmed for Concacaf qualifiers

The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) has confirmed that the region's qualification tournament for the Men's Olympic Football Tournament Tokyo 2020 will take place from 20 March to 1 April in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Eight teams will compete for two spots at Tokyo 2020, which will take place in July and August of next year, with matches to be held at the Jalisco and Akron Stadiums.

Mexico became the first nation from the region to win the Men's Olympic Football Tournament at London 2012.

"Our teams have delivered strong and historic performances in the Olympic Games, we are looking forward to raising the competitive level in the region and bringing the gold back to Concacaf next year," Concacaf General Secretary Philippe Moggio said.

Six teams are already confirmed to participate in the qualification tournament: hosts Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras and USA. The remaining two teams will be known in September at the conclusion of the Caribbean qualifiers.

The confederation also announced that the date and procedures for the draw for the tournament will be revealed in the coming months.

Competition Format

Per Concacaf: The eight participating teams will be sorted into two groups of four teams. After round-robin play, the first and second place finishers of each group will advance to the semi-finals. The semi-final winners will automatically qualify for the tournament’s final, as well as the Men's Olympic Football Tournament Tokyo 2020.
