On 28 March 2017, the Fisht Stadium was reopened in Sochi after undergoing reconstruction ahead of the FIFA Confederations Cup. Russia and Belgium inaugurated the renovated venue with a lively friendly that finished 3-3.
The stunning stadium is named after a mountain located not far from Sochi, which in the local language Adygean means “White Head”. Originally, it was built for the Winter Olympic Games 2014 and since then has become one of the main tourist attractions in the picturesque resort city on the Black Sea.
As part of its new footballing life, Fisht Stadium has already hosted the Russian Cup Final and four games will be played there during the Confederations Cup: Australia-Germany (19 June), Mexico-New Zealand (21 June), Germany-Cameroon (25 June) and one of the semi-finals.
