The FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG) is raring to go. Under the stewardship of former Swiss international Jean-Paul Brigger, the multicultural team are all set to put their wealth of experience to good use at the FIFA Confederations Cup France 2003. Peruvian Teofilo Cubillas is lined up for technical duty in Paris, Frenchman Philippe Redon will run the rule over games in Saint-Etienne, while Egyptian Moustafa Hani surveys all matters technical in Lyon.

Philippe Redon Now 52, Philippe Redon has been on the move all his professional life. As a player he was the league’s best goal provider on two occasions during spells with Rennes, Girondins de Bordeaux, PSG, Saint Etienne, Metz, Laval, Rouen and Créteil. A French international at all levels from youth right up to ‘B’ level, he then took up his first coaching post at Créteil at the age of 38. After a spell at RC Lens in the French second division he packed his bags for Africa, where he coached Cameroon, Egypt and Saudi Arabia before taking over the reins of Liberia in 2000. A FIFA instructor since 1996, he returned to France last year to take up his current position of assistant coach at Rennes.

Moustafa Hani An Egyptian international from 1966–1977, Moustafa Hani was Al-Ahly club captain for ten years. Named Egyptian Player of the Year in 1971 and Best African Left Back in 1973, he began his coaching career in 1980. Several stints at the head of Egyptian junior sides (between 1981 and 1991) and spells with United Arab Emirates side Al-Ahly (1982, 1985) and Port Saïd (1987, 1990) helped forge his experience. In 1988 and again in 1994, he was handed the responsibility of coaching the Egyptian national side. Then, in 1995, he took over the post of Director of the Youth and Sports Department for the Arab League. Hani has been a member of the Technical Commission for the African Football Confederation (CAF) since 1999.

Teofilo Cubillas This FIFA World Cup™ legend was a born goalscorer. Now 54, "Nene", as he was affectionately known, hit ten goals in three appearances on the world’s greatest stage (1970, 1978 and 1982) - making him the sixth highest scorer in the history of the tournament. With 48 goals in 81 internationals, Cubillas also grabbed 295 goals for club side Alianza Lima and twice, in 1966 and 1971, finished top scorer in the Peruvian Championship. South American Player of the Year in 1972, this Peruvian icon led his side to Copa America glory in 1975 and was named in the South American “Team of the Century”. After spells at FC Porto and FC Basel in Europe, he joined the NASL in 1979, where he turned out for Fort Lauderdale, scoring 65 goals in five seasons.
