A venue for major sporting events for more than 30 years, among them the FIFA U-20 World Cup UAE 2003 and the 2009, 2010 and 2017 FIFA Club World Cups, the Zayed Sports City International Stadium in Abu Dhabi is all set to stage another FIFA tournament: the Club World Cup UAE 2018.
Opened in 1980 and equipped with an athletics track, this 45,000-capacity stadium forms part of the Zayed Sports City, a sports complex where both the United Arab Emirates Football Association and the national team are based.
The stadium is situated in south-east Abu Dhabi, just 20 minutes from the city centre. Recently refurbished, it provides comfortable and modern facilities for spectators and hosts a wide range of major sporting and cultural events.
