The Best FIFA Women's Coach
A year to remember for Sarina Wiegman has ended with her becoming the first person to win the The Best FIFA Women's Coach Award for a second time. The Netherlands coach, who first picked up the honour in 2017, came second to Jill Ellis last year after guiding her team to the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ Final.
Yet it is her team’s form since France 2019 that has resulted in Wiegman reclaiming the award, with the OranjeLeeuwinnen’s subsequent unbeaten run having included ten victories from as many matches in a triumphant UEFA Women’s EURO qualifying campaign.
Wiegman also took on a new challenge in 2020 by accepting the England job, although she will lead her native country at next year’s Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in Tokyo before embarking on that new adventure with the Lionesses.
