Next week on

Rio 2016 is right around the corner and is your ticket to the action. The Women's Olympic Football Tournament kicks off this Wednesday, 3 August, with six matches on the schedule. The following day, the men will enter the fray and there will be no fewer than eight games to follow. Wewill naturally be on the spot to keep you posted as things unfold.

With a preview, daily round-ups, exclusive interviews, photos, videos and much more, you will have a front-row seat for an event that has been eagerly awaited all across the world.

In the meantime, we will be continuing our build-up right through to the big kick-off. On Monday we will be bringing you a tête-à-tête with French basketball player Nando de Colo, who is a big football fan as well as a medal contender on the court with Les Bleus.

On Tuesday, you can read all about China star Wang Shanshan's Olympic ambitions and the expectations with which Ali Riley and her New Zealand team-mates travelled to Brazil. As for the men's tournament, on Wednesday you can find out what Algerian international Rachid Ait-Atmane thinks about his country's chances up against Argentina, Portugal and Honduras in Group D.

As ever, we will also be sparing a thought or two for the FIFA World Cup™, on this occasion in the shape of a trip down memory lane in the company of Joseph Ndo, who featured at France 1998 with Cameroon and later went on to win the 2002 CAF Africa Cup of Nations. Now aged 40, the former Indomitable Lions midfielder is impressively still playing over in the Republic of Ireland.

On Thursday, we will be taking you on a journey of another kind, namely to Iceland, whose national team have been rewarded for their exploits at UEFA EURO 2016 – where they were a breath of fresh air – by climbing in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.

Back on the women's side again, do not miss our monthly round-upon Monday or our Live Your Goals recap on Tuesday. You will also be able to enjoy all our other regular features, including the stats and quotes of the week, and plenty of surprises to boot.
