Local Organising Committee announces Completion of Tournament Preparations

In the days preceding the kick-off of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016, the tournament’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) has announced the completion of all tournament preparations, indicating the Kingdom’s readiness to host the region’s first-ever FIFA women’s event. The tournament, which is set to become the largest sporting event in Jordan’s history, kicks off on Friday 30 September with matches in Amman and Irbid.

In preparation for the tournament, in 2014, a sporting infrastructure development plan, valued at JOD 25 million, was rolled out under which the tournament’s hosting facilities were subsequently constructed and upgraded as per international tournament requirements. As a result, the tournament’s four host stadia – Amman International Stadium, Prince Mohammad Stadium, Al-Hassan Stadium and King Abdullah II International Stadium – have been overhauled in accordance with international standards, readying them to provide local, regional and international crowds with a positive and memorable spectator experience.

Tickets for the tournament will be sold up until the Final match on Friday 21 October. They are available for purchase at prices ranging from JOD 2 to JOD 50 to ensure that all Jordanians and their families wishing to attend have access to tickets at varying prices to suit their budgets. Tickets are currently being sold online through the official ticketing website, accessible through FIFA.com, and at fixed points-of-sale in all three host cities, Amman, Zarqa and Irbid.

“With just a few days separating us from the kick-off of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016, it is gratifying to look back on the years of hard work and dedication that have readied Jordan to claim its rightful place on the international football map. We are prepared to welcome the world with open arms and eager to reaffirm our position as a rising football nation capable of hosting international mega sporting events of this magnitude,” said LOC CEO, Samar Nassar.

“Furthermore, we are optimistic that this tournament will not only contribute to the advancement of women’s football throughout the Middle East, but also pave the way for all Jordanian athletes across the Kingdom, acting as a launching point for further development and establishing a legacy for Jordanian sport that will endure long after the tournament’s closing.”
