Indira Gandhi Athletic International Stadium (IGAI), Guwahati

The Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium with a capacity of 30,000 spectators is situated in Guwahati, capital to the state of Assam. Interestingly, Assam shares maximum number of borders with other states of North East. It is surrounded by seven states: Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and West Bengal. It is appropriate that it acts as the home ground of the Hero Indian Super League’s NorthEast United FC, which accurate to its name, represents the north-east region of the nation.

Used mainly for football, it has also had its fair share of athletic events. It hosted the 33rd National Games of India, and recently played host to the 2016 South Asian Games. The stadium pays tribute to the late Indira Gandhi who was the fourth Prime Minister of India. She is also the first and only woman to be Prime Minister of India.
