Brazil played out their second consecutive goalless draw at the Men's Olympic Football Tournament Rio 2016, held in Brasilia by a resilient Iraq. A Seleção ​had the majority of possession, and went close - most notably with Renato Augusto hitting the crossbar - but they could not break down Abdul-Ghani Shahad's side.

The hosts made a fast-paced start to the match, with Gabriel thwarted by Mohamed Hameed after finding himself one-on-one with the Iraqi goalkeeper.

Iraq also went close in the opening stages, Durgham Ismael's long throw was flicked on by Mohanad Abdulraheem, but his header struck the post and was cleared away by the nervy Brazilian defence.

Rogerio Micale's side continued to create chances throughout the first half, with Neymar and Gabriel once more going close before Renato Augusto struck the woodwork, but they could not break the Iraqis down before the break.

It was more of the same after the restart, with Iraq's Suad Natiq and Saad Abdulamir guarding the backline well, and some sturdy defending by the Asian outfit.

Brazil applied pressure throughout the second period, but could not break down the solid defensive structure facing them. Renato Augusto had the best chance of the game to open the scoring, into stoppage time, but the No5 volleyed over a William cross with the net gaping and Hameed well out of his goal.

The result leaves Brazil trailing Group A leaders Denmark, who they face in their final pool game, by two points. Iraq are level with the hosts and they face bottom side South Africa on Wednesday in Sao Paulo.
