Gianni Infantino addresses UEFA Confederations meeting ahead of FIFA Congress

  • FIFA President to run unopposed for re-election

  • European teams won several FIFA tournaments in the last year

  • Twelve European teams to take part at FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has addressed the UEFA Confederations meeting ahead of the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali. "It was great to meet and interact with colleagues from the European confederation, UEFA, at their meeting preceding the FIFA Congress tomorrow," he said.

Gianni Infantino, who will run unopposed for re-election at the FIFA Congress on 16 March, thanked the European member associations for their support and said he looked forward to working with them closely for the next four years.

Europe provided eight of the 16 teams who reached the knockout stages at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ while Spain won both the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Costa Rica 2022™ and the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup India 2022™ in the last year.

European teams were also successful in the FIFA Club World Cup™, with Chelsea winning the 2021 edition, played in the United Arab Emirates in February 2022, and Real Madrid winning the 2022 edition, played last month in Morocco.

Twelve European teams will take part at the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023™ including Portugal and Ireland who have qualified for the first time.
