RESULTS

Australia 5-0 Nepal

(Group B / 📍 Canberra)

  • Australia stormed to a thumping 5-0 win over Nepal thanks to a full house of goals from hat-trick hero Jamie MacLaren and 20-year-old debutant defender Harry Souttar.

Japan 6-0 Mongolia

(Group F / 📍 Saitama)

  • Japan hit Mongolia for six in Saitama - thanks to a sextet of different scorers - as they charged to the top of Group F, leapfrogging Tajikistan on goal difference.

Korea Republic 8-0 Sri Lanka

(Group H / 📍 Hwaesong)

  • Kim Shinwook fired four of his own as Korea Republic registered a massive win over Sri Lanka, with Son Heungmin also getting a brace.

China PR 7-0 Guam

(Group A / 📍 Guangzhou)

  • Having scored an 18-minute hat-trick on his way to four first-half goals, Yang Xu delighted in front of goal on the way to a throughly convincing win to make it two wins and 12 goals from China's opening two games.

Uzbekistan 5-0 Yemen

(Group D / 📍 Tashkent)

  • It took Uzbekistan just two minutes to get up and running against Yemen, who had earned a pair of draws from their opening games. Having surprisingly fallen to a defeat against Palestine in their opener, this was exactly the result the home fans hoped for.

Bangladesh 0-2 Qatar

(Group E / 📍 Dhaka)

Goals from Yusuf Abdurisag and Karim Boudiaf - the latter in stoppage time at the end of the game - saw the 2022 hosts take all three points in Seeb.

Vietnam 1-0 Malaysia

(Group G /📍 Hanoi)

  • Nguyen Quang Hai's first-half effort, just before the interval, saw Vietnam continue their unbeaten start to Group G, building on their opening draw with Thailand. The No19's acrobatic effort guided Park Hang-Seo's side to victory in the first ever World Cup qualifying clash between these two nations.

IR Iran 14-0 Cambodia

(Group C /📍 Tehran)

  • Iran pulled off a landslide victory over Cambodia, scoring seven in either half to send them well clear at the top of Group C. Karim Ansarifard became the third player of the day to get four to his name, with Sardar Azmoun sealing a hat-trick.

Syria 2-1 Maldives

(Group A / 📍 Dubai)

  • Having gone ahead through Omar Al Somah's double, Syria looked to be coasting to back-to-back wins, however, they were forced to dig in late on. Ahmad Al Salih's red card saw Ali Ashfaq peg them back with 20 minutes to go, but Maldives couldn't find the breakthrough.

Kyrgyz Republic 7-0 Myanmar

(Group F / 📍 Bishkek)

  • Edgar Bernhardt drove Kyrgyz Republic to their biggest ever senior victory, while getting them off the mark in Group F. His hat-trick helped them surpass their previous record 6-0 scoreline against Maldives back in 1997.

Oman 3-0 Afghanistan

(Group E / 📍 Seeb)

  • Abdul Aziz Al Muqbali's first-half brace sealed the three points in Seeb for Oman, who are victorious in their first two matches for the fourth consecutive World Cup qualifying campaign.

Iraq 2-0 Hong Kong

(Group C / 📍 Basra)

  • A goal in each half - the first from Mohanad Ali and the second an Ali Adnan penalty - helped Iraq win the very first international match between the two teams.

Jordan 0-0 Kuwait

(Group B / 📍 Amman)

  • Kuwait held Jordan to a scoreless draw in Amman, however the result does provide some positivity for Vital Borkelmans' team as they have now kept five consecutive clean sheets in home World Cup qualifiers.

Lebanon 2-1 Turkmenistan

(Group H / 📍 Beirut)

  • Lebanon edged Turkmenistan thanks to Nader Matar's winning goal to make it three wins from three in the sides' all-time head-to-head international match history.

United Arab Emirates 5-0 Indonesia

(Group G /📍 Dubai)

  • Bert van Marwijk's UAE go to the top of the group with an emphatic result which featured an Ali Mabkhout hat-trick and saw Indonesia's losing streak in World Cup qualifying extend to nine matches.

Saudi Arabia 3-0 Singapore

(Group D / 📍 Buraidah)

  • It was a comfortable evening for Saudi Arabia, who got back on track with a win over Singapore thanks largely to Abdulfattah Asiri's brace.

STATS OF THE DAY

  • Jamie MacLaren's second strike of the day was Australia's 100th goal in World Cup qualifying since affiliation with the AFC in 2006.

  • Today was the first time Japan and Mongolia have ever faced each other in a senior 'A' match. Takehiro Minamino's opener was their 250th goal in World Cup qualifying.

  • Korea Republic have become something of a daunting task for Sri Lanka. The only time they've faced off before came in September 1979 and ended in a 6-0 win for the Koreans. They exceeded today, with the 8-0 scoreline only trailing their biggest ever - a 9-0 win over Nepal in 1989.

  • Uzbekistan picked up their 50th win of World Cup qualifying, with 10 per cent of them coming against Yemen - having now beaten them on five occasions.

  • While Vietnam and Malaysia have met 20 times - with the pair separated only by the Gulf of Thailand - this was their first ever meeting in World Cup qualifying.

  • Iran may have racked a crazy 14 goals, this was not their biggest win in World Cup qualifying, having picked up 19-0 and 17-0 wins over Guam and Maldives, too.

  • China PR's Yang Xu was the first player to score four times in a half during a World Cup qualifier since Leslie St. Fleur did so for Bahamas against Turks and Caicos in 2011.
