RESULTS
Mongolia 1-2 Kyrgyz Republic (Group F / 📍 Ulaanbaatar)
A pair of first half goals courtesy of Gulzhigit Alyukolv and Mirlan Murzaev saw the visitors make it two wins from three. Mongolia struck back from the spot in the second half through captain Njormoo Tsedenbal, but they couldn't track down an equaliser.
Korea DPR 0-0 Korea Republic (Group H / 📍 Pyongyang)
In the first meeting in Pyongyang between the sides for almost 30 years, the spoils were shared as the pair's 100 per cent start came to an end.
Cambodia 0-4 Iraq (Group C / 📍 Phnom Penh)
Iraq make it back-to-back wins as they dispatched Cambodia with a pair of goals in either half to leapfrog IR Iran into the lead of Group C.
Indonesia 1-3 Vietnam (Group G / 📍 Gianyar)
The visitors kept their hopes alive of progressing to the next round, moving level top with Thailand - trailing on goals scored. A late consolation was to little avail as Vietnam compounded Indonesia's challenging start to Qatar 2022 qualifying, leaving them without a point at the midway stage.
Chinese Taipei 1-7 Australia (Group B / 📍 Kaohsiung)
Central defender Harry Souttar made it three goals from just two Australia starts, with he, Adam Taggart and Jackson Irvine all earning braces as the Socceroos tallied up 12 goals in five days to maintain their perfect record in Group B.
Singapore 1-3 Uzbekistan (Group D / 📍 Singapore)
Eldor Shomurodov was Uzbekistan's hero in Singapore, with his second-half double ensuring they picked up all three points on the road. Ikhsan Fandi had threatened to get Singapore a valuable point, having cancelled out Odil Akhmedov's early opener, but they couldn't hold out in the second half.
Asian World Cup qualifying highlights (15 October 2019)
Philippines 0-0 China PR (Group A / 📍 Bacolod)
Philippines held out for a point against China PR courtesy of a late Neil Etheridge save to see themselves stay within three points of Marcello Lippi's side.
Thailand 2-1 United Arab Emirates (Group G / 📍 Rangsit)
Thailand blew Group G wide open as they ended UAE's perfect start to qualifying with a hard-fought win. Teerasil Dangda and Ekkanit Punya did the damage, seeing them edge a point clear of the visitors at the top of the table.
Tajikistan 0-3 Japan (Group F / 📍 Dushanbe)
A quickfire double from Takumi Minamino in the second half ended a valiant quest from early Group F pace-setters Tajikistan to hold onto level-pegging at the top of the table. Takuma Asano rounded off the win for the Samurai Blue to see them make it nine points from nine.
Palestine 0-0 Saudi Arabia (Group D / 📍 Al Ram)
Palestine picked up a crucial point, mirroring their last meeting four years ago, to ensure Group D stays wide open. Just two points separate the top four sides, with only Singapore - in third - having played a game more than Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia and Palestine.
Sri Lanka 0-3 Lebanon (Group H / 📍 Colombo)
A pair of first-half penalties set the foundations for a routine win in a soaking wet Colombo, with Hilal El-Hewe helping himself to a brace as Lebanon picked up their second win of the campaign.
Syria 4-0 Guam (Group A / 📍 Dubai)
Omar Al Somah's hat-trick secured Syria the three points against Guam but, despite going ahead after just two minutes, they had to wait until the final ten minutes before putting the game beyond doubt. It was then left to Mahmoud Al Mawas to add some gloss in the final moments.
India 1-1 Bangladesh (Group E / 📍 Kolkata)
A dramatic late equaliser saw India snatch a point, thanks to Adil Khan's header, but both sides find themselves without a win after three games of qualifying and their hopes starting to ebb away.
Jordan 3-0 Nepal (Group B / 📍 Amman)
Jordan kept up the pressure on group leaders Australia with a strong second-half performance against Nepal and extended their run of World Cup qualifying clean sheets at home to six matches.
Bahrain 1-0 IR Iran (Group C / 📍Riffa)
It was a historic result for Bahrain, which saw IR Iran's unbeaten run of 23 consecutive World Cup qualifying matches come to an end after Mohamed Al Hardan converted his second-half penalty.
Qatar 2-1 Oman (Group E / 📍Doha)
Almoez Ali's winning goal meant that Qatar made it five matches unbeaten in the two nations' head-to-head history (three wins, 2 draws), but they did concede a goal against The Reds for the very first time.
STATS OF THE DAY
While racking up seven is a good day in anyone's books, Australia have had cause for celebration more than most over the years. Their seven-goal haul against Chinese Taipei was the 11th time they've scored that many or more in World Cup qualifying.
Uzbekistan finally got over their recent travel sickness in qualifying, earning their first win on the road after a run of five straight defeats.
Philippines' point against China looked noteworthy in its own right, but delve a little deeper and it's even more so. The Azkals have never earned a positive result against China, having lost every game against them prior to today.
Having had to endure three defeats and three draws in their previous six qualifiers at home, Thailand fans are enjoying a bright spell with the victory over UAE making it back-to-back wins.
The Amman International Stadium is turning into a fortress: Jordan have now gone six matches in a row without conceding a goal at home in World Cup qualifying. The last goal scored against them there in World Cup qualifying was by Edinson Cavani for Uruguay in a 5-0 intercontinental play-off win on 13 November 2013.
Bahrain ended IR Iran's 23-match unbeaten run in World Cup qualifying (17 wins, six draws). IR Iran's last defeat in qualifiers before today was on 14 Nov 2012 (1-0 L v Uzbekistan).
