FIFA President meets Belize Prime Minister

  • The discussions between Mr Infantino and Prime Minister John Antonio Briceño follow a recent visit to Belize by the FIFA President

  • Also present at the meeting was Sergio Chuc, President of the Football Federation of Belize

  • The meeting took place in New York City, where all three are present for the United Nations General Assembly

On the sidelines of the 77th United Nations General Assembly in New York City, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has met with the Prime Minister of Belize and the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) President, to discuss a wide range of football development matters. Mr Infantino – who visited Belize as part of a wider tour of Central America in August 2022 – sat down with Prime Minister John Antonio Briceño and Football Federation of Belize President Sergio Chuc to continue the positive discussions held during the previous recent interactions.

On the recent visit to Belize, President Infantino praised the country’s engagement with the FIFA Forward programme. The FIFA President was given a tour of the FFB headquarters and training centre at Belmopan, which was built with help of FIFA Forward. The FIFA President praised the work, and the engagement with FIFA Forward, and described the pitches as "state of the art". Also on the agenda for the meeting in New York was the FIFA Football for Schools programme which, in August 2022, Belize joined – and in doing so became the fourth Concacaf nation to adopt the FIFA programme.
