First-half goals from Patricia Sochor and Aline Milene were enough for Brazil’s Ferroviaria to earn a 2-1 win over Colombia’s America and claim a second Copa Libertadores Femenina title on Sunday.

Sochor opened the scoring after just seven minutes when her floated long-range free-kick evaded defenders and attackers alike before slipping through the hands of America’s goalkeeper.

Catalina Usme briefly drew America level with a successful spot-kick just before half-time, however parity remained for only three minutes before Milene crashed home a penalty at the other end.

The result ensured a slice of history was created, with Lindsay Camila becoming the first female coach to win the competition.

The previous success for the Araraquara-based club in Sao Paulo state came in 2015.

America, who shocked Brazilian heavyweights Corinthians with a penalty shootout victory in the semi-final, were seeking to become the second Colombian club after Atletico Huila to win South America’s premier club competition.

Corinthians claimed third place earlier in the day with a crushing 4-0 win over Universidad de Chile.

The next edition of the Copa Libertadores Femenina is set to be hosted by Chile in September/October.
