Megan Rapinoe's spectacular 2019 culminated in being named The Best FIFA Women's Player at Milan's Teatro alla Scala last month. While the USA superstar has achieved just about everything possible on the pitch in international football this year, that's not the only reason why she's an inspiration to so many.

Lindsay, an English LGBT+ activist and football fan, idolises 'Pinoe' equally for her accomplishments and bravery off the pitch as a voice for human rights.

"My journey started around 2002," Lindsay said. "I've been involved in football most of my life and noticed an ever-increasing amount of homophobia creeping into the game at live matches.

"Off the field, [Megan] has inspired me over the years for her dedication to LGBT rights and the taking down of all other forms of discrimination."

As a member of the FIFA Fan Movement, Lindsay had the opportunity to meet Rapinoe in Milan, where she read the two-time FIFA Women's World Cup™ champion a powerful letter detailing her own story.

"Today I stand up for LGBT-plus rights not just in the UK, but around the world," Lindsay read to Rapinoe. "My hope and pride in doing this comes from watching and listening to Megan Rapinoe.

"For being a voice for those who don't have the same platform, 'Pinoe, to me you are The Best."
