Club America are CONCACAF Champions League winners for a record seventh time after completing a 2-1 home win over compatriots Tigres in Mexico City on Wednesday.
Though boasting a handy 2-0 lead from the opening leg, America were put on the back foot as Tigres’ star forward Andre-Pierre Cignac reduced the deficit before half-time.
However, America substitute Michael Arroyo restored the two-goal advantage midway through the second period, and Osvaldo Martinez allayed any lingering nerves by slotting home a late penalty for a 4-1 aggregate win.
America will now compete in their third FIFA Club World Cup when Japan hosts the 2016 edition later in the year.
