A glance at the future: FIFA discusses sustainability of Football Turf and for the first time, hosts a test area at the FSB

The International Trade Fair for Amenity Areas, Sports and Pool Facilities (FSB) currently takes place in Cologne.

As in previous years, FIFA is represented by the FIFA Quality Programme for Football Turf, at an area covering 220m2 providing their Member Associations, licensed manufacturers and test institutes a collaborative networking area.

A testing area of 60m2: for the first time, FIFA, in collaboration with the accredited test institutes, is demonstrating and explaining how artificial football turf surfaces are tested. Short demonstrations are organized to show how the different test devices are used and how the test results are relevant to the safety of the players and the performance of a FIFA certified football turf installation. The highlight is the Lisport XL Machine simulating how football turf is tested for durability. The updated version has a larger sample size that allows additional testing, which provides more confidence for the product life cycle.

To learn more about the functionality of the different test devices please visit us at Hall 10.2, Stand B10 daily at 11am and 15pm for the Lisport XL presentation, as well as, for the field testing presentations at 2pm and 4pm.

A glance at the future: energy efficiency, sustainable technologies and conservation of resources are the predominant contemporary themes in the sports facilities management and planning sector. At the “Recycle Forum”, FIFA together with World Rugby and FIH, were discussing the importance of sustainability for sport governing bodies. It was explained how the three sports collectively, as well as individually, work with the industry to improve their sustainable status. It is important to outline that sustainability also considers, asides from an environmental approach, the ecological, social and economic dimensions, all of which must be considered together to find lasting prosperity. The common approach is to provide more information to help the industry in making the decision.

To discuss these recent trends and developments in the industry and to create new businesses and networking possibilities FIFA is hosting a get together event today.
