On Wednesday 27 July 2022, the FIFA Foundation Board met virtually to discuss the 2021 Activity Report. Gianni Infantino, FIFA President and President of the FIFA Foundation Board, and Mauricio Macri, Executive Chairman of the FIFA Foundation, members of the Board and guest speakers all participated virtually. In alignment with the FIFA Vision 2020-23 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the different programmes implemented during 2021 focus on addressing solutions to social problems faced by children and young people, empowering girls and women through sport, supporting education through football, and helping to repair sports facilities damaged by natural disasters. Despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the FIFA Foundation was able to continue supporting communities around the world, using the power of football. The commitment to making a positive social impact was reinforced with the launch of new initiatives such as the FIFA Foundation Campus Programme – an immersive sports and educational experience with a strong focus on good health and wellbeing – and The Gigaton Carbon Goal – an ambitious plan aimed at reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide by one gigaton by 2040 through more sustainable farming methods.

Another important item on the meeting's agenda was the election of the FIFA Foundation Board. On this occasion, Gianni Infantino and Sonia Fulford were re-elected for a new term. Furthermore, Lydia Nsekera's departure from the Board was confirmed. Isha Johansen was elected as a new member. A FIFA Council member, Isha Johansen was also the president of the Sierra Leone Football Federation between 2013 and 2021. She founded premier league club FC Johansen in 2004, borne out of a humanitarian project using football to reintegrate orphaned and displaced kids into society after Sierra Leone’s civil war. The next meeting of the FIFA Foundation Board will take place in the second quarter of 2023.
