FIFA eWorld Cup Grand Final 2018 wins 'New Esports Competition' award
At the Esports Business Summit, which took place in Las Vegas from 1-3 October 2018, the FIFA eWorld Cup™ Grand Final 2018 won the 'New Esports Competition – Single Tournament/Event' award.
In doing so, it beat off competition from the National Hockey League's 2018 NHL Gaming World Championship, Major League Baseball's MLB Home Run Derby VR Championship and other tournaments.
Head of Digital Marketing at FIFA Christian Volk received the award on behalf of the team. "It makes me unbelievably proud and I'm delighted for the whole team that the huge effort and innovative concept have produced such a positive response worldwide," he said after the ceremony. "We're looking forward to continuing to drive this successful project forward in the coming season."
The Tempest Awards at the Esports Business Summit acknowledge the best projects carried out by the most innovative companies and people in the eSports scene. The prizes were awarded in diverse categories, including production, marketing, team management and technology.
The jury was comprised of some of the most well-known faces on the eSports circuit. The Tempest Awards are among the most important prizes given in North America for brands, teams, leagues, players and executives in the eSports scene.
The FIFA eWorld Cup 2018 set a new attendance record over the course of the three-day event at the start of August. Over 29 million digital views were recorded throughout the tournament at The O2 in London, where Saudi Arabia's Mossad 'Msdossary' Aldossary took the title as FIFA eWorld Cup Champion 2018.
